Manager, Health Informatics

POSITION SUMMARY:

In collaboration with the CMIO and other leaders, the Manager of Informatics is responsible for providing effective leadership and strategic direction in the coordination of all aspects of planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of health information systems as they apply to clinical processes. The scope of this position encompasses The Valley Health System (VHS), which includes The Valley Hospital, Valley Medical Group, and Valley Home Care. The Manager of Informatics will have direct oversight of the Digital Health Informatics team as they support the coordination of all aspects of planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of health information systems as they apply to clinical processes. A significant area of work for the Manager will be to develop a formal onboarding/training program for all new providers at VHS. The Manager will make recommendations to the CMIO regarding significant strategic changes regarding the coordination, oversight, and development of the Informatics staff. Working closely with the CMIO, informaticists, and clinical application specialists, the Manager will have a pivotal role in establishing a cohesive Digital Health Informatics team. The Manager is expected to keep abreast of new innovations in technology, with a focus on optimizing, enhancing, and integrating systems. The Manager will make recommendations to the CMIO regarding significant strategic changes and new systems as needed. Development of strong and effective working relationships with the organization ‘s leaders and clinical staff is expected.

EDUCATION:
Master ‘s Level Degree: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Physician Assistant (PA)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
  • Directly supervise the Digital Health Informatics staff, with duties such as:
  • Managing each team member ‘s workload.
  • Creating and managing team schedules.
  • Evaluating performance and providing feedback.
  • Reporting staff performance to CMIO.
  • Identifying and applying career advancement opportunities.
  • Helping to resolve employee issues and disputes.
  • Onboarding of new hires.
  • Develop a formal onboarding/training curriculum for all new providers at VHS.
  • Oversee training program run by the Informaticists and Clinical Application Specialists
  • Work with clinical and administrative leaders to determine training schedules.
  • Identify and develop specialty appropriate training content.
  • Partner with information systems leadership to develop an efficient clinical support processes to help providers and nurses with usage of the electronic health record (EHR) and related technology.
  • Participates in a variety of committees and working groups, such as the Informatics Workstreams, Clinical-Technology Action Committees, and others as assigned.
  • Works with provider and nursing leadership to ensure beneficial use of information technology and develop strategies to optimize the use of existing systems.

EXPERIENCE:
At least three years of experience in clinical practice 2+ years of staff management with direct reports Experience in clinical informatics or information technology related projects Special Skills / Qualifications Certification: Informatics related Degree or Certification is highly desirable.

Demonstrates solid clinical knowledge, analytical ability, critical decision-making skills, and an extensive knowledge of healthcare issues, with a focus on the science of integrating healthcare, technology, and clinical data. Ability to function as a mentor and coach. Proven leadership ability, innovative and creative. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage large, complex projects over long periods of time. Easily adjusts to changes and shifts strategies and plans as needed. Ability to see the big picture. Team player with the skills to move teams toward goals. Capable of accepting new challenges and developing programs from start to finish. Sound decision making skills. Ability to conduct research.
