Health Information Technician
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the conversion of the paper medical record into electronic format by using problem-solving skills involving complex job tasks, policies and procedures, and departmental guidelines. The position requires follow up skills to secure missing documentation in either paper or electronic form, in order to successfully scan and upload the medical record into electronic format without loss of data. Tasks would include data entry, scanning into high production scanners, basic maintenance and trouble shooting of the scanning hardware. The position requires the ability to apply judgment, analysis, and discernment regarding the decisions of if, how, and where a document is to be prepped, scanned, and indexed into the permanent legal medical record. The position requires the ability to validate the quality and inclusion of the scanned documents into the permanent legal health record. The ability to handle multiple tasks and changing job assignments within the department is required with same skill set. Knowledge of the scanning application and Health Information processes is mandatory.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
Computer, scanning and office experience preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Completion of clerical test required. Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the Medical Staff, peers and supervisors, and other internal and external customers. Ability to communicate and articulate effectively (oral and writing). A Detail-focused individual with the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision and cooperatively within a team environment. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to analyze and set priorities; make important and effective decisions in support of HIM processes, and follow established Departmental policies and procedures and ability to respond quickly to customer needs. Ability to assess, prioritize, analyze and efficiently resolve problematic situations and prioritize, while maintaining a professional customer focused/friendly demeanor.
